How to Change a Car Tyre: Step by Step Guide

Step 1: Find a Safe Location

Park your car on a flat surface away from traffic. Turn on your hazard lights so that other drivers can see you.

Step 2: Gather the Tools and Spare Tyre

Most cars come with a set of tools and a spare tyre. Find these items in your car and make sure they are in good condition before starting the process.

Step 3: Loosen the Lug Nuts

Using the lug wrench, turn the lug nuts counterclockwise to loosen them. Do not remove them completely at this stage.

Step 4: Jack Up the Car

Place the jack under the car’s designated jacking point and pump the jack handle until the tyre is off the ground.

Step 5: Remove the Lug Nuts and Tyre

Using your hands, completely remove the lug nuts and set them aside. Remove the flat tyre from the car.

Step 6: Mount the Spare Tyre

Align the spare tyre with the wheel studs and place it on the car. Replace the lug nuts and tighten them by turning clockwise.

Step 7: Lower the Car

Pump the jack handle to slowly lower the car to the ground. Remove the jack and tighten the lug nuts again for added security.

Step 8: Check the Tyre Pressure

Using a tyre pressure gauge, check the pressure of the spare tyre. Make sure it’s inflated to the recommended level before driving.

Step 9: Store the Flat Tyre

Put the flat tyre in the trunk of your car. Take it to a tyre repair shop where they can assess if it can be repaired or if it needs to be replaced.

By following these simple steps, you can change a tyre on your own and get back on the road safely.
